How Have Wikis Assisted 21st Century Learning?

Wikis have become a fundamental trademark of 21st Century learning. For one, wikis symbolize the increased use of technology in learning nowadays, showing that online encyclopedia sites like Wikipedia may be on the way to replacing traditional textbooks. Wikis also symbolize the 21st Century Learning ideal that students must do their own research via technology to study and learn. Wikis are the heart of this ideal because they allow users to upload their own articles and edit others' articles, and through these processes, users get to learn even more about a topic than they would have by just reading a textbook. Thus, not only students get to do their own research using modern internet technology, but they get to practice their research by officially publishing their own information to public outlets! In my personal experience, I found that I understood and memorized important concepts the best when I personally practiced them. For example, after writing four blog entries on 21st century learning and modern technology, I discovered that I have memorized the different aspects of 21st century learning much more clearly!
